Drake Will Host Toy Drive in L.A.

December 2, 2009

As his debut album title Thank Me Later entails, Young Money’s Drake is one that is willing to give to those that are less fortunate.

The rapper will appear at the 2009 Winter Wonderland Celebration and Toy Giveaway on December 5 in Los Angeles.

Located in the Sears Court of Baldwin Hills’ Crenshaw Plaza Mall, he will sign autographs for one hundred people that decide to donate an unwrapped toy as well as give away toys.  There will be more in store for fans as he will choose five that will have the privilege of joining the artist for a private meet and greet.

Even greater thanks can be placed into the hands of Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks, along with his wife, Bobbi, who were both responsible from Drake’s participation in the event. They are also the hosts of  the 7th annual Winter Wonderland event that takes place on December 12 in the lower level of the Sears parking lot.

“We are very appreciate of Drake’s support of the toy drive and our efforts to extend the Christmas spirit to children who may not otherwise receive gifts this season,” said Ben Richardson, General Manager of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza.

Turning the event into a spectacle, this will be quite the treat as the parking lot will be turned into a snow village for the children.

As the music world continues to wait for the official debut from the rising sensation that is Drake, many will have to settle, for now, as he accompanies his Young Money brethren on the compilation album, We Are Young Money which should hit shelves December 21.

With Lil Wayne facing a year behind the walls, someone will have to take the reins of Young Money and right now, Drake is looking like the prime candidate to lead Young Money into the future.

*Happy B-Day To Me* Diddy Spends Whopping $3 Million On His Own Birthday Bash

November 24, 2009

NY Post: Sean “Diddy” Combs spent a whopping $3 million on his champagne-flooded 40th-birthday party at the Plaza for 500 guests.

He created a fantasy Garden of Eden-themed room with a $30,000 orchid display, installed his own black dance floor and black chandelier and treated guests — including Jay-Z, Bono, Nelly, Martha Stewart, Christy Turlington, Zac Posen, Kim Kardashian and Denzel Washington — to a silver confetti-drop, courtesy of lighting wizard Bentley Meeker, and a performance by Al Green.

Security was tight and even Tyrese Gibson and “Twilight’s” Kellan Lutz had to talk their way into the VIP area.

Rapper Fabolous flirted with Rachel Hunter after asking Diddy who the leggy beauty was, while DJ Cassidy was working his charms on Adrienne Bailon.

Nas and Damian Marley Bringing Debate to D.C.

November 18, 2009

Although an album has yet to be dropped, the Distant Relatives known as Nas and Damian Marley are still trying to leave their impact outside of the music.

Teaming with National Geographic and V-Tech, the duo will have a panel debate next month in Washington D.C. Paying homage to the art of Hip Hop, the discussion will explore the origins of the genre and reveal what type of impact it has had across the globe.

The event is set to take place at National Geographic’s Grosvenor Auditorium on December 12.

Of course a history lesson wouldn’t be as effective without relevant teachers as the two will be accompanied by legends in the game such as Rakim, DJ Kool Herc, DJ Red Alert, Jeff Chang and more.

Clearly a momentous occasion, MTVs own Sway Calloway will serve as the moderator for the event, which will also be filmed for a future documentary.

Fans will be in store for a surprise following the event as there will be an after party as well as an open-mic show at the nightclub Zanzibar.

Tickets for the panel discussion are quite limited and will run for about $25, but the fee will also serve as a ticket into the party following.

Those that are unable to dig deep into their pockets shouldn’t be worried about missing the actual debate as it will be streamed live and broadcasted through National Geographic’s Web site.

In terms of the album, Distant Relatives is set to drop sometime in 2010.  Serving as a social commentary with content heavily revolving around Africa, features so far are rumored to include Young Jeezy, Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder, Stephen Marley, Snoop Dogg and K’naan.
